Mustangs have historically and always will be one of the most popular collectible cars. They are the original pony car and always in demand. I have owned numerous mustangs since my first 68 mustang at age 16. None of them I have ever sold for less than I paid. This includes driving them for sometimes years and always selling them at a profit.
Mustangs have always been wanted by collectors with the most desirable ones being of course Shelbys, Boss Cars, any big block including the Mach 1, fastbacks, etc.
In recent years the interest in 1967 models has skyrocked with numerous "eleanor" clones available, Shelby clones, etc. 1967 was the very first year of the big block, with the mustang becoming larger to accomodate the new engine and numerous ways to personalize the new mustang with many options now available. Many people consider the 1967 the favorite year of the mustang because of the many improvements in design, options, engine choices, etc.
The 390 S code equipped mustangs are very much in demand now with most people forgetting about the first big block and most collectors were concentrating on 428 cars, boss cars, shelbys etc. The value of all these big block choices is now in the $100,000+ range.
The 67 390 is bound to also go up in value as more and more collectors are now looking at this year and engine as a great choice, great style, etc.
Of course any mustang with desirable options such as GT group, big block, air conditioning, deluxe interiors,etc.etc. are always going to command more money.
My car is of course one of the most highly optioned mustangs I have ever seen. (this is the major reason I bought the car back in the day)
Mustangs continue to be collectible, rare (how many do you see cruising around now?) and great enjoyable investments.
