Welcome to MustangGTA.com a website about my 1967 mustang GTA. My name is Brad and I'm in Alberta, Canada. I've owned this mustang for almost 25 years.
The GTA designation was only used by Ford in 1967 and never again before or after on any mustang. One year only (1967) for mustangs They used it on mustangs and fairlanes with GTA fairlanes produced first in 1966. GTA stands for GT Automatic. The GT option consisted of foglights in the grille, gt gas cap, dual exhausts with cutouts in the rear valance, chromed quad exhaust outlets, stiffer supsension, power disc brakes and GT or GTA badging and stripes. (I used to hate when people would put on gt badges and fog lights and think they had a GT) Obviously more to a GT or GTA than that. I also dislike that GM used the GTA designation on there firebird trans ams. Renault also used it. Ferrari also uses it, which is ok ;) Also GTA doesn't just stand for grand theft auto kids or greater toronto area.
My mustang was special ordered with a variety of options and accessories. Many of them brand new for 1967. The 67 mustang body was changed for this year and was made wider and longer, also deeper grille, concave tailights, deeper sculpting along the side with 4 grille vents behind the doors. The body was changed to allow Ford to install the first big block motor in a mustang. The 390 FE.
My car has the 390 High Performance engine stock with 320 horse power. Stock chrome valve covers, air cleaner, radiator cap and oil dipstick. This engine also came stock with dual exhaust and a holley 600 cfm 4 barrel carb.
Other options and accessories on my car include: GTA (new for 67...they still did GT but only on 4 speed cars now) Styled Steel Wheels 14 by 6 inch with blue center caps (new for 67) Exterior Decor Group with in hood turn signals, chrome wheel well trim, chrome trim along trunk and rear. (new for 67) Vinyl roof Interior decor group was known before as the pony interior, also known as deluxe interior. Includes aluminum trim along the dash, door panels, molded armrests, lighted grilles below the door panels, padded back seat area with chrome accents, molded plastic seat back and sides, rectangular accents in the middle of the seats, vinyl shifter handle. AM/8 Track with door speakers (new for 67) Woodgrain 3 spoke steering wheel-Actually not true wood but a plastic wheel made to resemble wood. Wheel is 9 position tilt and tilts away or swings away when the door is opened and vehicle shut off. Very rare to see in mustangs as was a popular option in thunderbirds. Was a $60.00 option in 1967. My car was originally ordered for the DSO of Alberta and was sold new at Ellard Motors, Leduc, Alberta. I have the original owners manual and also a Marti report stating the options and original factory order of the 390, GTA, tilt-away, air cond, styled steel wheels, etc.
It was originally springtime yellow, a lighter colored yellow and I purchased the car in 1982 and it was in primer then. Like everyone else I always wanted a red mustang and ended up painting it a dark burgundy (autumn maple metallic -a cadillac color) with black stripes. I repainted it a few years back the same autumn maple metallic but with a gold pearl and added gold hood stripes and gold GT stripes along the bottom. Black stripes have been re-added just before winter storage in 2008.
